THE SPELLWRIGHT

Twirling a pen between her fingers, golden dust whispered up from the tips as she ruminated.

For months, spellwright Fia Ives has petitioned for admittance to the archives of the great Thistledown Library, but she’s neither an approved scholar nor an esteemed librarian, and no one else is allowed past the ever-watchful gargoyles guarding the fabled doors. So, one midnight, in an ill-fated attempt to find an invaluable spellbook, Fia sneaks into Thistledown—and glimpses three mysterious figures deep within the stacks, who, like her, clearly don’t belong.
When the library later announces the theft of an ancient and unquestionably dark grimoire, suspicion falls to Fia, and she realizes the only way to clear her name is to root out the trio of devious thieves, but it isn’t easy work while running her spellshop. Impulsively, she hires the first person who applies to mind the store—the insufferably dark-eyed magician, Penbrook Madbury, who is as sleepy as a cat and just as secretive and sly. Fia isn’t sure she can trust him with her reckless plan (let alone her beloved shop), but as a strange magic begins curling darkly through the town the closer she gets to identifying the thieves, she will have to risk her own gargoyle-guarded heart to break the ruin of curses before it claims her.
